Botox is the trade name for Botulinum toxin Type A. These injections have been used for more than a decade in children and adults to reduce facial muscle spasm. Botox has also been effective in correcting double vision due to muscle imbalance, abnormal sweating, and headaches caused by muscle strain.
By injecting minute amounts of Botox directly into specific muscles, wrinkles such as crow's feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles can be greatly reduced or eliminated by relaxing the muscles that cause them. The treatment takes effect in approximately five to seven days and lasts for three to six months at a time. The treatment can then be repeated multiple times, and longer lasting results may occur with repeated injections.
Dr. McBride’s Unique Botox Treatment Technique Dr. McBride has developed a unique approach to injecting Botox which reduces needle marks in the face and reduces discomfort dramatically. He applies a vibrator to the face during all injections to almost completely eliminate discomfort. He also uses the vibrator to spread the Botox so it is perfectly even. Only one injection is made at each site (compared to 3 to 6 with other surgeons). Dr. McBride uses the smallest needle available and goes through the skin at only one point for each muscle. He then moves the needle around in the tissue under the skin, which is not as sensitive as the skin, to complete the injection. His assistant immediately applies pressure to the site which almost completely prevents bruising. This approach lets him easily inject multiple areas with almost no discomfort or bruising. The Advantages of Dr. McBride’s Botox technique include: • Reduced needle marks on the skin • Almost no bruising • Almost no swelling • Almost no discomfort Botox is effective for lines and wrinkles that occur when the facial muscles are used. It is generally not effective for lines that are present when the face is relaxed unless the lines are right over the muscles that can be treated with Botox. Since we do not want to eliminate the movement associated with most normal facial expressions, Botox can only be used in certain areas.
Botox treats:
Men’s muscles, and some women’s muscles, require larger doses, and the effect may not last as long. If you do not obtain the result you desire after ten days, please come in for re-evaluation. We can easily augment your result with additional Botox.
Side effects and complications have been minimal. Occasionally, slight swelling and/or bruising may last for several days after an injection. We have not seen this happen, but it has been reported that on rare occasion an adjacent muscle may be weakened for several weeks after an injection. This may cause a slight lowering of the eyelid or some double vision. This will resolve as the effect of the Botox fades.
Botox is extremely safe for cosmetic use. It is not a permanent treatment. When the lines start to re-appear, a simple repeat treatment is all that is necessary to maintain the desired result.
